National Organizations - Canada

  • The Canadian Horse Defence Coalition
    A collective of people and national groups working together to ban the slaughter of equines for human consumption in Canada as well as the export of live horses to other countries for the same purpose.

British Columbia

  • Circle F Horse Rescue Society
    "Circle F Horse Rescue Society is a registered charitable organization established in 1997. Our founder felt that all horses should be given the gift of Freedom - Freedom from neglect, Freedom from abuse, and the Freedom to have a good home. Circle 'F' stands for 'Freedom for all Horses'."
  • Horse Protection Society of BC
    Founded in 1984 by Melva Mclean and based in Langley, BC. Mission: "Prevent cruelty to horses, whether deliberate or due to ignorance; educate the public about equine needs; provide information and guidance with regards to horse care; stop the inhumane slaughter of horses."
  • J & M Acres Horse Rescue
    An all-breed private rescue located in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. "Our mission is to get as many horses off the meat truck and into good homes as we can."


  • Bear Valley Rescue
    Bear Valley Rescue was founded in 2004 and is located in west-central Alberta. BVR's mission is to save from slaughter usable and healthy horses and find them good homes; to rescue injured or ailing animals from auctions and feedlots or abusive situations and rehabilitate them, or alleviate their suffering; to educate the public on the plight of unwanted or aging horses and other animals; to network with other rescue organizations and provide support through these networks for finding and placing distressed animals.
  • Dare To Dream Horse Rescue
    Located in Dalemead, Alberta. "Dare to Dream Horse Rescue is working to save young horses from being slaughtered. The horses featured on our website have been saved from this fate. We make sure they are healthy and then decide whether they will stay at the rescue to become part of our youth program, or sold to approved loving homes."
